Recent Events

On Wednesday April 26, 2023, more than 20 Nigeria-Diaspora Advocacy Coalition consisting of grassroots, pro-freedom advocacy organizations, and civic actors who help combat atrocities, advance constitutional democracy, defend human rights, and promote religious freedom and the transformational justice system in Nigeria converged in Washington DC. Nigeria-Diaspora Advocacy Coalition and the US policy experts banded together with the goal to engage in a comprehensive campaign, which includes, 

 

1. Engaging their congressional representatives to urge them to support Res. H. 82 to relist Nigeria as a country of particular concern, and appoint a Special Envoy to Lake Chad region

 

2. Creating awareness and highlighting the security risks of Nigeria’s 2023 elections and highlight the crisis of legitimacy of Nigeria’s presidential authority if Nigeria’s Supreme Court, if they were to be unduly influenced to compromise justice in the election petition suits filed by the political parties in this disputed election.

 

3. Demanding congressional oversight actions on the impunity of INEC and Nigeria ruling party APC, security officers who violently torpedoed the people sovereign will to choose a leader of their choice in the 2023 sham, shoddy and disputed elections.

 

4. Demanding US Secretary of State to promote and urge President Biden to promote foreign policy tools that will hold disrupters, corrupters, and political actors who stoke violence to subvert the 2023 Nigeria Election accountable, with accompanying severe sanctions. This was accompanied with an open letter to President Biden, which was copied to the Speaker of the House and Chairman of Foreign affairs Committee of the US Congress.
